The Platform
What Crestron Home is, and who it is for
Crestron Home is Crestron's curated residential automation platform. It runs on the same CP4-R and MC4-R processors that power traditional Crestron installs, uses the same TSW touchpanels and Horizon 2 keypads, and connects to the same physical device ecosystem. The difference is the programming layer. Crestron Home ships with a structured OS that includes a polished homeowner app, predefined device categories, and a library of certified Extensions that handle device integration without requiring the dealer to write code from scratch. The result is a system that installs faster, presents a consistent UI out of the box, and reduces the time a client spends in a commissioning process before living in their home.
The platform is designed for homeowners who want control over their residence without managing the complexity underneath it. It is not the right answer for every project. Large commercial deployments, projects requiring deep custom logic, or installations where the control behavior needs to mirror enterprise IT workflows are often better served by Crestron Pro. What makes a Restrepo Crestron Home install different
In-house programming
Most dealers deploy Crestron Home using only the certified Extensions Crestron publishes. Restrepo programs at a deeper level. Our staff writes original code for behaviors, automations, and device integrations that are not available in the standard Extension library. That means a client's system can do things a stock install cannot. When a device needs a new behavior, a scene needs custom logic, or a third-party integration needs to speak a protocol Crestron Home does not natively support, we write the code in-house. Local Home Assistant bridge
Restrepo runs a dedicated local Intel NUC on the same network as the Crestron processor. That NUC hosts a Home Assistant instance that acts as a bridge between the Crestron Home system and the broader device ecosystem. If a device communicates over Zigbee, Z-Wave, MQTT, Matter, or any standard protocol, it can be brought into the Crestron Home UI through the bridge without waiting for a certified Extension. The NUC is provisioned, configured, and maintained by Restrepo. This is not a cloud dependency. The bridge runs locally. If internet service goes down, automation continues without interruption. This architecture is proprietary to Restrepo and is not a standard feature of Crestron Home installs elsewhere.
Custom Home Extensions
Crestron Home ships with an Extensions framework. Most dealers use it as a consumer, install Extensions someone else wrote, hope they keep working. We write our own and load them directly onto the Crestron Home processor.
The clearest example is the 2x2 video wall Extension we built. By default each of the four displays shows an independent source. The Extension watches the routing matrix. The moment all four displays are switched to the same source, the Extension automatically collapses the four panels into a unified 2x2 video wall canvas. When sources diverge again, it switches back to independent mode. No homeowner button press, no service call, no waiting for Crestron to publish that behavior as a stock feature. We wrote it, we own the source, we maintain it.
We own the code, we fix the code
Most Crestron Home dealers run a long support chain. Homeowner calls the dealer. Dealer files a ticket with Crestron tier-1. Tier-1 escalates to tier-2. Tier-2 escalates to the third-party Extension developer. The Extension developer goes quiet. The homeowner waits.
Our chain is shorter. Homeowner calls Restrepo. Restrepo opens the source. Restrepo ships a fix the same day. We wrote the Extension. We wrote the SIMPL program. We own the source. There is no one to escalate to, because we are the developer.
The same operating principle carries into how we handle every install. If a system is working, we keep it. Upgrade what needs upgrading. Add what the client now wants. Do not tear out what is still doing the job. We have been running that posture since the pandemic, when we kept clients on existing Crestron infrastructure rather than waiting six months for new appliances to ship. A system that runs does not need to be replaced because something newer exists. The job is to serve the client, not to bill a forklift upgrade.
The Restrepo Crestron Home stack: the right tool for the job, because we write the code
Crestron Home is a configured platform. It does lighting, shades, HVAC, and the homeowner UI extremely well. It does not do everything out of the box. The question is what to do about the gap.
Most Crestron Home dealers cannot do anything about it. They are configurators. They install Crestron Home and they stop there.
Restrepo writes code. That gives us two real options for closing the gap, and we pick the one that fits the project.
The first option is a custom Crestron Home Extension. We write the Extension ourselves and load it directly onto the Crestron Home processor through the Home Extensions framework. The Extension runs inside Home, on the same hardware the client already paid for. No second processor, no extra rack space, no extra cost. Our 2x2 video wall Extension is an example. For most custom asks this is the right answer, and it is invisible to the client.
The second option is VC-4 (Crestron Virtual Control) on a dedicated local Intel NUC in the rack. VC-4 hosts our SIMPL Windows and SIMPL# programs alongside Home. We reach for VC-4 when the scope genuinely needs it, compute-heavy SIMPL programs, complex AV routing math, multi-program orchestration, third-party system integration outside what an Extension can reach. The same NUC also runs our local Home Assistant bridge for device reach.
Right tool for the job. Sometimes it is an Extension on the Home processor. Sometimes it is VC-4 on a NUC. Sometimes it is both. The client gets what the project needs, nothing they do not.
VC-4 on a local NUC: real horsepower for custom programming
VC-4 is Crestron Virtual Control. It is a Crestron runtime that hosts SIMPL Windows and SIMPL# programs on a standard Intel x86 server instead of a fixed-spec Crestron appliance. SIMPL Windows and SIMPL# are the developer programming environments for Crestron Pro, separate from Crestron Home, which is a configured platform on its own dedicated processor.
We started deploying VC-4 during the pandemic, when Crestron appliance processors were on six-month-plus lead times and we needed to ship projects on schedule with hardware that was actually available. Five-plus years of production deployments later, we kept running it as a standard option because the x86 horsepower, the local control, and the headroom outperform appliance hardware on heavy custom scope.
We deploy VC-4 on a dedicated local Intel NUC in the AV rack on projects where the custom scope genuinely needs it, compute-heavy SIMPL programs, complex AV routing math, multi-program orchestration, third-party system integration outside what a Crestron Home Extension can reach. The same NUC also runs our local Home Assistant bridge for device reach. Real x86 cores and real RAM. No appliance ceiling.
On projects where the custom scope fits inside a Home Extension, we do not add VC-4. The Extension runs natively on the Home processor and the client does not pay for hardware they do not need. Because we write the code, we get to choose.
Bridging legacy Lutron to current Lutron without ripping out the original system
Many luxury homes in NJ, NY, and CT run on Lutron systems installed years or decades ago. HomeWorks QS and RadioRA 2 are common in homes built or renovated in the 2010s. Lutron Illumination is common in the original luxury estates built in the late 1990s and early 2000s, and many of those Illumination systems are still running on the original keypads, dimmer racks, and load controls 20-plus years later. The hardware works. The owner wants to add new scope, a renovated wing, a pool house, a primary suite redesign, without ripping the whole system out.
Lutron's standard answer for any of those upgrades is a full migration to current-generation HomeWorks QSX or RadioRA 3. That is a six-figure forklift on a working system, plus weeks of disruption in a luxury home. Most integrators will not touch an Illumination job because they cannot work with the old controllers at all.
Our answer is Crestron as the bridge. We wrote a SIMPL bridge that runs on VC-4 on a local Intel NUC. It talks to the legacy Lutron system (Illumination, HomeWorks QS, or RadioRA 2) on one side and current-generation Lutron (HomeWorks QSX or RadioRA 3) on the other. The two systems coexist on the same network. New scope ships on the current generation. The original keypads, dimmer racks, and load controls keep running until the owner is genuinely ready to retire each zone. Crestron Home runs the entire estate as one unified experience.
The owner walks into the upgrade slowly, on their timeline, one wing or one floor at a time. Never loses lighting control during construction. Keeps the investment in the original system earning until the day each zone is actually replaced. That is the if-it-works-keep-it mindset applied to lighting infrastructure that costs more than most houses.

New Jersey
Our primary market is northern and central New Jersey. We serve Bergen, Essex, Morris, Passaic, and Hudson counties on a regular basis. Specific towns where we have active installs and service clients include Alpine, Saddle River, Franklin Lakes, Short Hills, and Tenafly. Bergen County alone accounts for a significant share of our residential Crestron Home work given the concentration of luxury new construction and estate renovation in that market.
New York
In New York, our Crestron Home work concentrates in Westchester County and Manhattan. Westchester towns include Scarsdale, Bronxville, Rye, Larchmont, Bedford, Chappaqua, and Pound Ridge. Manhattan projects are typically high-rise residential and commercial. We also take Hamptons projects on a case-by-case basis, typically for existing clients expanding a Crestron Home system they have at their primary residence in NJ, NY, and CT to a second home.
Connecticut
Connecticut work covers Fairfield and Litchfield counties. Towns we serve regularly include Greenwich, Darien, New Canaan, Westport, Stamford, and Ridgefield. The Connecticut market trends toward large estate properties where Crestron Home provides a platform that can scale across many thousands of square feet while maintaining a single unified interface for the homeowner.

Restrepo Crestron Home installs run on a dedicated Crestron Home processor (MC4-R or CP4-R-HS) that hosts the Crestron Home configuration. We often load our own custom Crestron Home Extensions directly onto that processor when a project needs scope outside the stock Home device list. On projects where the custom scope is compute-heavy or program-level, we also deploy VC-4 (Crestron Virtual Control) on a dedicated local Intel NUC in the same rack to host our SIMPL Windows and SIMPL# programs, paired with Home Assistant on the same NUC for device reach. The stack is sized to the project. TSW touchpanels go at primary control points. Horizon 2 keypads replace standard in-wall switches and give the homeowner scene access from every room without opening an app. DM-NAX handles distributed audio, routing digital audio across the network to any zone in the house.
Lighting control is Crestron-first. Crestron lighting occupies the primary control layer. For estates where the lighting design calls for a Lutron HomeWorks QSX deployment, Crestron integrates with and controls the Lutron system through a certified driver, keeping the homeowner in one interface. We design, deploy, install, configure, and support Lutron HomeWorks QSX, Lutron Sivoia QS shading, and Hunter Douglas PowerView regardless of Lutron certification status. Motorized shading integrates into Crestron Home scenes. Motorized shading is coordinated at architectural drawings, not retrofitted after drywall. Distributed AV routes content from a central head-end to displays throughout the house. Surveillance connects to the Crestron Home interface for live view and clip access. Ubiquiti networking, deployed under our UISP/Pro Partner status, provides the infrastructure that carries all of it. HTA Luxury Certified reflects a structured assessment of business practices specific to luxury residential installation. OSHA Certified covers jobsite safety standards relevant to installation work. Ubiquiti UISP/Pro Partner reflects validated competency in Ubiquiti network design and deployment.

Can Crestron Home integrate with devices not in the official Extensions store?
Yes. Restrepo writes custom Home Extensions for devices without native Crestron Home support. We also run a local Home Assistant bridge on a dedicated Intel NUC that connects Crestron Home to devices communicating over Zigbee, Z-Wave, MQTT, Matter, and other standard protocols. If the device can communicate, it can be brought into the Crestron Home interface. This bridge runs locally and continues operating regardless of internet connectivity.
How long does a Crestron Home install take?
A complete new-construction Crestron Home install in a 6,000-square-foot residence covering lighting, shading, distributed audio and video, networking, and surveillance typically runs four to eight weeks from rough-in through final programming walkthrough. Retrofit installs in finished homes take longer per square foot. Smaller commercial installs, such as a boardroom or executive suite, can complete in days. Timeline depends on scope, product lead times, and general contractor scheduling.
What happens if a custom Extension breaks?
We own the code, so we fix the code. Restrepo-written Extensions do not go through a Crestron support ticket or a third-party developer queue. When a custom Extension needs a repair or update, our programmers handle it directly. For clients on a service contract, corrections go to the front of the queue. Most software-only fixes can be pushed to the Crestron processor remotely without a site visit.
Do you offer ongoing support?
Yes. Restrepo offers service contracts for Crestron Home clients in NJ, NY, and CT.
