Per-outlet current draw, voltage, temperature, and on/off state are visible from the same touchpanel or web interface as the rest of the system. When the streaming box on outlet four locks up, we can power-cycle that single outlet remotely. When the amplifier on outlet seven starts pulling more current than its baseline, we get an alert and look at it before it becomes a callback.

Equally important is sequencing. A rack with eight or ten powered devices should never have all of them slamming on at the same instant. The amplifiers should come up last, after the source devices and the processor, so the speakers do not pop. The displays should come up in a defined order so the matrix has time to settle.
