Projection Engineered to Exceed the Reference
Certain projection environments exceed the specification envelope of even the most capable residential and commercial laser platforms. Private screening rooms built to THX or SMPTE reference standards. Architectural installations with 200-inch or larger screens. Visualization labs where image fidelity supports engineering decisions. Commercial venues where the projected image is itself the architectural feature. These are the environments where The Restrepo Group specifies Digital Projection. a manufacturer whose work spans cinema exhibition, studio mastering, and the highest-specification private installations anywhere in the world.
Digital Projection’s engineering reputation was established in professional cinema and high-end simulation before it extended into private luxury installations. The lineage matters: the INSIGHT Laser 8K platform, the Satellite Modular Laser System, and the M-Vision laser series are designed around standards that originate in commercial exhibition and are applied to environments where no compromise in image quality is acceptable.
The Reference-Exceeding Platform
The INSIGHT Laser 8K platform delivers native 8K resolution. more than 33 million pixels. with laser phosphor illumination that sustains color accuracy and brightness across an extended operational life. The Satellite Modular Laser System, a commercial-grade platform adapted for private installations, separates the laser light engine from the projection head: the light source can be located remotely from the room, reducing fan noise in the screening environment to levels that competing technology cannot match. The M-Vision laser series extends Digital Projection’s image science into screen sizes from 150 to over 300 inches, at brightness levels from 10,000 to 21,000 lumens. sized for rooms that outscale residential cinema entirely.
Color science at the Digital Projection level is calibrated against SMPTE and DCI reference standards out of the factory and confirmed to specification during installation. Full BT.2020 color gamut coverage, 12-bit color depth processing, and advanced HDR tone mapping mean that the projector is not approximating the content it receives. it is rendering the image at the specifications the content was mastered to.
Where Digital Projection Is the Correct Specification
The Restrepo Group specifies Digital Projection for environments that the residential reference cinema market does not fully address. Private screening rooms designed to professional reference standards, where image quality supports decisions about content mastering or approval. Commercial visualization environments. design review suites, simulation rooms, architectural presentation spaces. where the projector is a professional instrument, not a consumer product. Large-format residential cinemas and media rooms where screen sizes exceed 170 inches and the light output requirements outpace standard DLA-class projection. Private exhibition spaces and architectural installations where the image is the focal point of the room’s design intent.
Integration at This Level
Digital Projection installations require engineering discipline that begins before the architectural drawings are finalized. The Restrepo Method for a reference-grade installation integrates acoustic modeling, optical path calculation, environmental specification (ambient light, HVAC acoustic signature, power quality), and source-chain engineering into a single coordinated design. Projector placement, lens selection, and screen specification are determined together. each decision constrains the others, and attempting to resolve them sequentially produces compromised results.
Commissioning a Digital Projection installation is a multi-day process. ISF and THX calibration methodologies are applied in sequence, with measurement and correction across grayscale, color, gamma, and geometry. The installation is not considered complete until every parameter has been measured against specification and documented. Under the Restrepo Continuum Concierge tier, reference installations receive calibration review on an annual or semi-annual schedule, supported by firmware and processing updates that maintain the system against the evolving standards of commercial content.
Selected Engagements
The Restrepo Group has engaged on Digital Projection installations including private screening rooms configured for post-production reference review, large-format residential cinemas with acoustically transparent screens exceeding 200 inches, and commercial visualization environments for design firms and engineering practices across the NJ, NY, and CT. Each installation is specified to the environment it will serve. the manufacturer provides the instrument, and the integration provides the result.
We design and support complete technology environments built for long-term performance.
