Crestron warranty: what is actually covered for life, and what is not

The Three Lifetime Warranties Crestron Actually Publishes

Residential lighting controls. Crestron’s Lifetime Limited Warranty covers residential dimmers, switches, sensors, keypads, lighting enclosures, terminal blocks, power supplies, thermostats, and control processors when installed as part of a residential lighting control system on or after July 1, 2016. Coverage runs from the product’s Launch Date until its End of Maintenance Date as published in Crestron’s End of Sale Notice. DIGITAL QMT shade motors. Crestron’s Shading Solutions warranty covers DIGITAL QMT shade motors at 100% for the product’s lifetime. The CSA-PWS and CSAI-PWS shade power supplies also carry lifetime coverage. Standard QMT motors, shade hardware, fabric, and manual clutches step down (100% to 5 years, 50% from 5 to 8, 0% after). so the lifetime guarantee specifically applies to DIGITAL QMT, which is the motor we specify by default on every Restrepo project. The Honest Fine Print

Lifetime means the product’s lifetime as defined by Crestron. from Launch Date to the End of Maintenance Date listed in Crestron’s End of Sale Notice. When a product is retired, the clock starts. In practice this gives you many years past discontinuation, but it is not infinity.

All three warranties extend only to the original end customer and are not transferable to subsequent owners. They cover the part, not the labor to diagnose, remove, ship, reinstall, or reprogram. They are voided by improper installation, abuse, environmental exposure (sun, water, salt), or use outside spec.

Other Crestron product categories are not lifetime. Touchscreens, faceplates, network switches, lighting fixtures themselves, ballasts, and LED drivers fall under the Crestron Standard Limited Warranty (typically 3 years). Commercial lighting carries a 5-year warranty, not lifetime.

Why We Say “Best in the Industry”

No other major luxury control or lighting platform publishes lifetime coverage across three product categories simultaneously. Lutron, Savant, Control4, URC, and ELAN all top out below lifetime on the core load-control and shading hardware. Crestron is the outlier. and they put it in writing.

“Best” is not a marketing word here. It is a function of three things you can verify yourself: (1) which products are covered, (2) for how long, and (3) what percentage Crestron pays at each year mark. On all three measures. for residential lighting controls, DIGITAL QMT shade motors, and indoor speakers. the Crestron documents above are the strongest published terms in the residential luxury category. Anyone who tells you otherwise should be asked to produce their own warranty PDF.

How Lutron Compares

Lutron HomeWorks QSX. the platform most often compared to Crestron at the luxury tier. carries a tiered warranty: 100% coverage for the first 2 years, 50% from year 2 to 5, 25% from year 5 to 8, and 0% after year 8. It is not a lifetime warranty.

Lutron is an excellent platform; we specify it routinely. The point is not that Lutron is bad. The point is that when a competing dealer says “Lutron has a lifetime warranty” they are misstating the published terms. Crestron has lifetime on the three categories above. Lutron does not.

Why This Matters on a 50K to 250K Lighting Spec

Walk a typical Restrepo lighting and shading project forward 12 years. With Crestron residential lighting controls and DIGITAL QMT shade motors, every dimmer, keypad, processor, and motor that fails is covered at 100% by the manufacturer for the part. With a competing tiered warranty, year 12 is 0% coverage on the motor itself.

On a 6,000 sq ft estate with 80+ dimming zones and 30+ motorized shades, that warranty difference is real money. usually a five-figure delta over the lifecycle of the system. We mention it not to sell a brand, but because the published terms favor one platform on the categories that drive the bill.
