Sequencing the Tech Trade: When to Bring the Integrator In
Technology integration is the one trade that touches every other trade on a luxury residential project. and it is almost always the last trade to be contracted and the first to be blamed when something is missing.
About This Course
Technology integration is the one trade that touches every other trade on a luxury residential project. and it is almost always the last trade to be contracted and the first to be blamed when something is missing. This course gives builders and GCs a sequencing framework for the technology trade that aligns integration milestones with the standard construction schedule, reducing change orders, callbacks, and schedule slippage at substantial completion.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this course, attendees will be able to:
- Identify the five construction milestones at which technology integrator coordination is required. from pre-permit through commissioning. and describe the deliverable required at each.
- Sequence low-voltage rough-in relative to electrical rough-in, framing inspection, and insulation to avoid schedule conflicts and rework.
- Establish a technology coordination checklist appropriate for inclusion in the GC’s project management workflow.
- Define the scope boundary between the electrical contractor and the technology integrator for common scope overlap areas. panels, conduit, outlet placement, and structured cabling.
60-Minute Outline
A technology integrator who is engaged after drywall is hung cannot fix what was missed. they can only work around it, and the workarounds are visible and expensive. The most common source of owner dissatisfaction at move-in is not a failed device. it is a conduit that was never run, a blocking that was never specified, or a scope gap between two trades that no one owned.
