About This Course

Lighting design in a luxury interior is a layered discipline. ambient, task, accent, and decorative sources each serve a distinct function, and the quality of the result depends on how those layers interact under control. This course gives interior designers a structural framework for lighting layering and connects that framework to the control systems that activate it. The course is manufacturer-agnostic and covers principles applicable across any lighting control platform.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course, attendees will be able to:

  1. Define the four layers of interior lighting. ambient, task, accent, and decorative. and explain the functional role of each in a luxury residential or hospitality space.
  2. Specify fixture types, placement, and beam angles appropriate to each lighting layer in a given room typology.
  3. Describe how scene-based lighting control translates a layered lighting design into programmable occupant experiences.
  4. Identify coordination points between the lighting designer, interior designer, and technology integrator that must be resolved at the CD phase.
