About This Course

Designers taking on a refresh or renovation frequently inherit a home that has accumulated years of technology decisions made without design input. universal remotes, dead zones, abandoned wiring, mismatched in-wall speakers, and keypads that belong to systems no longer in service. This course is a structured methodology for auditing existing technology, deciding what to remove, what to relocate, and what to disguise, and communicating those decisions to the integrator as a defined scope. Before-and-after walk-throughs illustrate how the audit process translates into a cleaner, more resolved interior.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course, attendees will be able to:

  1. Conduct a technology audit of an existing home. cataloging active, inactive, and legacy devices. and produce a disposition matrix that classifies each item for removal, relocation, concealment, or replacement.
  2. Identify concealment strategies for in-wall and surface-mounted technology. custom millwork surrounds, grille fabric panels, flush-mount trim kits. appropriate to the existing interior’s style and finish level.
  3. Evaluate existing structured cabling and wireless infrastructure to determine what can be retained, extended, or must be replaced to support the design program.
  4. Develop a technology refresh scope document that gives the integrator clear direction and protects the designer from scope creep during construction.
