A Streaming Setup That Resets Between Guests.

A short-term rental has a problem a primary residence does not. Every week or every weekend, a new family arrives. They sign into Netflix on the streamer. They cast from their phone. They change the picture mode. They leave. The next guest arrives and finds the previous family's profiles, queued shows, and watch history sitting on the television. That is not a luxury experience.

What We Actually Build

A streamer that resets on a schedule. The device returns to a clean state on a defined cadence, usually mid-morning on standard turnover days. Signed-out accounts, no leftover history, no queued downloads. The next guest sees a fresh screen.

A branded landing screen. On every power-up, the television comes to a single screen the owner controls. Property name. Wi-Fi instructions. House rules link. Contact button. A short list of streaming apps the owner wants to highlight. The guest does not have to hunt through a settings menu to figure out where they are.

A simple remote and a simple interface. A two-button physical remote, or a Crestron handheld if the property is already on Crestron, with macros that hide the streamer's underlying menus. Guests do not need to know which app or which input. They press a button, the right thing happens.

Remote management for the owner. If the streamer freezes between guests, the owner does not need to drive to the property. We deploy devices that support remote reboot and monitored health. The owner sees the device is offline, taps a button, and the device comes back. If the issue is deeper, our team takes the call.

Multi-unit owner dashboards. Owners running more than one rental, or a small hospitality program, get a single view across all the units. Which streamers are healthy. Which were used last night. Which need a reset before the next check-in.

Hardware We Reach For

Apple TV remains the most reliable consumer streamer for this use case. The hardware is stable, the apps cover the major services, the AirPlay layer lets a guest cast from a phone without giving up the password, and the device responds well to scheduled resets. For larger programs that want a closer-to-hotel feel, we deploy purpose-built short-term rental platforms that ship as appliances and integrate cleanly into Crestron and the property network. We pick the platform that fits the program size and the budget, not the one with the prettier marketing page.

The Network and the Account Layer

Two parts of a rental setup matter as much as the streamer itself. The network needs a guest VLAN with bandwidth shaping so one streaming guest does not knock out another guest's video call. We run that layer on Ubiquiti UISP and Pro Partner gear. The account layer needs to be clear with the owner: who owns the streaming subscriptions, who pays, and whose credentials the streamer will or will not store. We document that decision before the first guest arrives, so the owner knows what their guests are signing into and what gets wiped at each reset.
